Stock CD Player

Once again I am back with question. I have the stock CD player option, with the CD player separate from the head unit (its where the cubby hole would be).  It has worked great up until now. Just went for a ride, and it wouldn't eject the cd (standard, prerecorded cd), won't recognize that a cd is inserted (almost positive there is one in there), and will not play it.  Any ideas? pull the fuse? No theftlock (whatever they call the anti-theft stuff) code, so no problem there.  Haven't had a chance to look at it.  It played the cd just fine a couple of days ago, took a trip on Wednesday, never even turned the radio on (funeral trip), and tonight went to change the cd and it wont eject or play! help!

well i have no idea what would cause that to happen.  you should try the fuse if its not getting power in the first place, but if it has power and still doesnt work theres not much you can do,  these things really cant be easily repaired, youd have to take it to a dealer...

I don't know for sure about the remote cd players, but I would think there would be something in the display of the head unit if there was a CD in the player.

Maybe it is a loose interface wire between the two units.

If I remember correctly, that cd unit gets all of its connections right into the back of the head unit. The dash trim is only held on with clips and if you pull it off both the head unit and cd player are also held in by clips you squeeze on the sides and slide straight out. Check the connections at the harnesses, maybe unplug them then plug them back in. If the radio has power, I think the cd runs off of that (and the same fuse) so its got to be either a bad connection between the radio and cd or the cd player died. If you do decide to pull the dash trim off, tilt the wheel all the way down and put it in Low 1 if its a column shift, makes it a lot easier. Then use a small screwdriver to assist with prying the clips on the  wiring harness connections for the lights and whatever else plugs into the back of your dash plate.

If you do take the cd unit out, you can remove the cover screws to see if theres a cd in there or not, but if there is, unless you can get power to it, it will be almost impossible to get it out of there. I know because when I changed my head unit, I forgot to take out the cd and had to do surgery on it to retrieve it once the harness had no power going to it. Theres a bunch of little pins and springs and sliders in there that if you manupulate them to release the cd, you can slide it out little by little. I wouldn't recommend it.

Good luck.

Also, I was just thinking, it may be the head unit itself (the circuits which run the cd player) So if the radio works, but not the cd, it could really be either one with the problem if all the connections seem okay.

Try this....Take another CD or a knife blade and carefully stick it into the slot.  Run it inward along the bottom, trying to get it under the CD that is inside the player now.  Hit eject when you get under it.  Get a CD player cleaner.

Thanks for the tips guys! I pulled the dash trim off today, pulled the cd player and radio, reset the connections and it works again. I think the connector for the cd player at the radio had worked loose. Thanks again!
