Silverado 4.3L to V8 swap - Help Please

Recommended Posts

I'd like to put a V8 in my 1993 Silverado. It came stock with a 4.3L V6. Does anyone know what parts I need to change besides the engine? Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

That should be fairly simple. Let's see, all your 4.3 accessories will bolt right up. need a v8 fan shroud. v8 radiadtor hoses and a v8 ecm. all the wires hook up the same. Fuel pump will be fine if you run a tbi v8. Exhaust work to finish it up.

Probably not. The 4.3 is not really that much smaller than a v8. It is actually a v8 with 2 cylinders cut off. They use the same water pumps and starters same trans bolt pattern torque convertor bolts right up. All the 4.3 brackets will bolt up for the a/c alt and p/s and pulleys.. p/s hoses and a/c hoses should be long enough. May have to lengthen a few wires. Just take your time and do it right.

Concerning the TBI, I've heard the unit I have now is too small, but is it possible to replace the injectors with new, larger ones, or would it be better to just replace it?

PS: Thanks for all the help!!

I think the throttle bores are smaller on the 4.3TBI (less CFM), it may be better to replace it with one from the same size v8 you're planning to use

Regarding the radiator.

The 305 and the 4.3L had the same size radiators from the factory, but the 350 had a bigger one. I would use the 350 radiator no matter which V8 I was using.

Also the 95 radiator is bigger than the earlier ones.
