Golf Cart Mechanics

I have two golf carts at my house, both broken. I have a good bit of mechanical and electrical/electronic know-how, but these are kinda new to me.

1) 36 volt Club Car. the batteries are good (we replaced them about 8 months ago). One of the guys that was helping maintain it decided if he switched some battery cables around, we could run faster. No joy. On a full charge, it will run for about 100 yards, then it's dead. The coil/solonoid pack is really hot. It has the old 5 solonoid system/ I was told to change the whole pack, but that is about $ 100-150. I don't mind paying it, but I can't afford to throw money at it without some idea that I'm doing the right thing.

2) 1990 EZ-Go, 2 stroke. Won't fire, plenty of gas and spark, 60 psi compression. I was looking at the carb ($150), one tech told me to try a fuel pump first. He said it could be sucking fuel into the crankcase (vacuum operated pump) and up into the cylinder.

Any ideas? I am on a short leash with these from the wife. I know that they are valuable, so I can't trash either one.

On the 2 stroke 60 psi is not enough. Needs at a minumum of 100 and it will run even better in the 125 range. I would tear it down and check the internals.

I used to have a Club Car - had the same problem --- replacing the solonoids worked for me. ---- If you want more speed there are aftermarket stuff for that -- I've heard them called " turbo switches"

Good luck
