O4 Sierra Performance Mods

I'm sure if I took the time I could find the information somewhere on this site but I'm takin' the easy way and starting a new thread. Need some advice on mods to my 04 Sierra crew 4x4, 5.3. The local truck tuner suggested a catback (gibson), K&N filter, Hypertech and a throttle body spacer. Any thoughts or recommendations? I know the aurguments about a Westers tune vs. Hypertech and I think I like the flexibility that the Hyper would offer, meaning I could reprogram for new tires/wheels, put back to factory for warranty work, etc. What about the spacer??? I'm a car guy but not a bonafide gear head. Thanks for the help.

Jimi, handhelds are paperweights compared to a custom tune. Want to be able to quickly go back to stock ?? Keep your original cpu and get you one of the many available cores for <$100. Then it'll be quicker than even a handheld. Takes less than 10 minutes to swap cpus.

Tire change will be a free update.

Really, you WON'T be dissatisfied with a Wester's tune. You'll QUICKLY outgrow a handheld...

Probably the next best mod would be electric fans.

A cat-back is okay, but you'll get better results with some long-tube headers, swap the muffler and go....

A gear change will make drastic changes, but that might be a bit much for your needs...

Unquestionably, tho, a Wester's tune is THE BEST bang-for-the-buck mod you can make.

Intake, Exhaust, Tune will get you going in the right direction.. If you want to you can send me the money you were going to spend on that throttle body spacer to my paypal and it will do you just as well  j/k.. but stay away from the throttle body spacers

Thanks. So the throttle body spacer does nothing? That's was my hunch. Thanks for the info.

I installed AS&M headers on mine. Only took a couple hours and made quite a difference. Also a Trans-Go shift kit then remove all the torque management with the tune.

I have a 03 Sierra ext. cab z71 SLT with the 5.3, I have added a K&N drop in filter, Magnaflow Catback rear exit exhaust, and a Superchip Tuner, and I can't get over the difference in performance and Fuel economy. You have to run Super octane, so that's a downfall, but the difference in performance is well worth the extra $5 per tank fill. I haven't heard anything good about those throttle body spacers either. I'd like to add a little bit more power if there is something I can do to get a little bit more go, without much modifying, as it's my daily driver. But for now, I am pleased with the performance.
