squeaking

Ok right now I'm looking at a 2003 gmc 1500 with the 5.3 with about 38,000 miles on it and when it idles the engine sounds fine but when you get the engine above ideling speed there is a kinda squeaking sound. Has anybody else had this problem? Is it the belt or maybe the alternator. It would only be annoying if you don't ride with the radio turned up.

Well yes I have this problem also. A sqeaking whistle type sound. Thought it was from the trottle body spacer that I have installed, but now that you mention it the sound had been around awhile before. We might get some good feedback on this subject soon I hope! mine is a '01 Z71 5.3 with 80K. So if anyone can help please do!

The Idler Puller (belt tensioner) and the Serpentine belt itself are both good possibillities.

I had to replace the Serpentine belt on my '01 HD at 17K miles because it "chirped".

well I don't have to worry about it now I'm not getting that truck. It is a 2003 with 39,000 miles on it and it has already seen 4 new drivers. had to turn it down.
