AIR RECIRCULATION SWITH

Is it normal operation for the AC compressor to come on when recirculation button activated in "vent" mode?

Yes.

Since when? Vent is the economy setting for A/C it should only work when A/C or deforost is selected. None of my vehical have ever cycled the compressior in "vent" mode or with A/C switch not depressed unless deforst is selected.

It was a new one on me, but if I am running the vent & decide to recirculate (necessary when driving by feedlot) the air conditioner compressor comes on with the associated cool air.

Might have something to do with recirculate to prevent humidity build up but mine do not do it and my newst one is a 2000 classic, not a Silverado.

My '04 with the automatic dual zone climate control does it. So did my 2003 Trailblazer (manual dual zone climate control, the standard setup in '03-'05 trucks now, I think) and our 2004 Malibu LT with automatic single zone climate control system.

I believe you're right about the reason behind it too- it's supposed to prevent fogging of the windows in recirc mode.
