Torque Management Question

Is there a way to disable this other than buying a programmer,,I've heard rumor that the dealer can do this. Thanks guys!! Its for my truck below.

It is there for a reason emissions wise in your drive by wire throttle control. While it might be possible for dealer to disable it, it would take a reprogram of ECM that may alter its emission certification which they cannot really do if it does. What you do with aftermarket though is another matter.

Actually i have a cable for throttle control if that makes a difference.

Oh, you have a classic like mine my 2000 K3500. There is not real torque management per say on those models, it is on the new drive by wire models thaat limit how fast throttle can be opened at times. I use and Hypertech 3 tuner on mine with pleasing results for the $125 I paid for it on ebay some time ago. It made it feel crisperer in responding to throttle input. I could tell a difference snd noticed it when I took it out of truck when it went in for warranty work and before I re-installed it. I also like how easy it is to tweak speedo to get it dead on too.

Snoman, Why do you think it hurt's emissions? Pulling 30 degrees of timing out of an engine when it needs it is not an emission concern. It is for weak parts. I believe you need to do a little research on tq managment and also some research on ignition timing and the effects it has on an engine at idle and at high rpms.

As for the pcm not allowing the throttle blades open at full throttle on take off and again at full throttle has to do with weak parts again. If the pcm comands zero and even negative timing (as is the case with tq man.) It also has to decrease fuel. Decreasing fuel leans out the a/f mixture. This is very bad at 5000 rpm. So the new fly by wire makes the adjustment of air by shutting the throttle blade. The loss of power this creates effectivly minimizes wear and tear. For at least warrenty periods. It also kills the HP that is alredy their. Removing tq managment just allows you to use all the hp your engine already has. We see this as a gain and it's not. I would suggest you read Biochemist post in the lightduty threads on his new wester tune. He's pretty anal about his truck(no offence Bio :D ) But he gives great review's . He has gained power and milage.

I do not believe the hypertech touches the tq managment at all. Maybe on an 03up but not on a 2000

I would recomend calling wester's or pcm for less and talk with them. l checked wester website and they say yes the can remove it.

I know the predator started the ability to remove tq in 03. So I don't think any handheld has the ability for 2000 model year.

Facn8me,

Since 1996 GM has incorporated both Engine and Transmission Torque Management. It has gotten MORE intrusive since 2003. The transmission TM is for increasing the life of the tranny, where as the Engine version monitors engine emissions, temperature and many other variables and reduces engine power by way of Ignition and fuel curves to improve the quality of the emissions.

Actually EVERYTHING is monitored for emmisions and all aspects of engine operation are "tweaked" to minimize emmission signature and knock control a side engine timing is tweaked to control NOx emissions too as higher advancement can increase peak temps whicj increase NOx developement. NOx was the main reason the chooped compression in 73 because they was no other way to reduce NOx quickly other than lowering compression and retarding spark and any one old enough to remember those cars when new will remember what a big drop they took that year in power and drivabilty. Component life may play a small role in torque management but not a big one because if you go to WOT to quickly the engine is dirty for a bit and they cannot have that happen when trying to certified engine. Best MPG does not always come with best emmisions and emission is priority with engine certification with MPG a close second. I would love to see a westers on a emmisions loop test and it is not just westers, I would like to see everyones because I suspect that regardless of what they say that some of those tunes make vehicals non compliant.

Well I guess you learn something new everyday. I did not realize tq managment was not actually designed to manage the torque of the engine. And i do understand that pulling timing and fuel would definatly improve emissions due to the fact if the gas isn't there it's just moving air. But in my defense I believe using less throttle to move a load and less hunting for gears at speed does much more to lower emissions. I also agreewith you snoman that a improperly tuned vehicle will produce a dirty reading. I have heard of no one reporting emission testing failure. It would be plastered everywhere. Now I am sure it has happened but retuning can fix this. I too am interested in a comparison. I can tell you that with my predator and me playing with it my lt fuel tim is 0ish slight neg. Maybe one day we will have an answer. :D
