Jester4736w Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 I just picked up my 03 2500HD last tuesday and i need a bedliner for it. Through research i've noticed that Line-X spray liners are the best, from what people tell me. But as far as price vs. product which would be a better route? Slide-in plastic bedliners or spray in? Thanks all!
bobby5 Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 Id go with the drop in bed liner and go with linex or something on down the road because a drop in will prolly rub some paint off the bottom of the bed but will protect against dentsand they might come out with something better in the future. There gonna have to destroy your paint anyways to put a linex on might as well protect it against dents by using a drop in. I like the looks of spray ins when there first done but after a year of so they tend to fade and if you try and drag something across it they tend to peel also. I was gonna get a spray in for mine until i found this site http://www.bedlinerfacts.com/home.html
Jester4736w Posted April 11, 2005 Author Posted April 11, 2005 Thanks for the info... The truck already had a drop in liner at one point because the paint is scratched in the bed and on the rails, so im not worried bout that with the plastic, and your right, the plastic seem to control dents better. Thanks boss!
r8rs4lf Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 I think a better question is what do you plan on using the bed for? Both liners have (+) and (-) about them. I don't put alot of heavy things in my bed, plus I really don't like the drop ins so I went with Line-X over the rails. I also don't have to worry about it fading because I have a SnugTop SL lid to cover it. I just don't get the whole thing about wanting to protect the bed from dents with a drop in. If your dumping concrete blocks or things heavy enough to dent the bed, then your not all that worried about it right? Late- Alex
JRKRACE Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 You couldn't pay me to go with a drop in. Had them on my last 2 trucks and you should see the mess they create underneath. I used it on a truck that saw construction use and when I removed it on a whim, there was hardly ANY paint on the bed. Nevermind all the mulch, sawdust , wood shavings, etc that I found. Good luck.
Jester4736w Posted April 11, 2005 Author Posted April 11, 2005 r8rs... I plan on using it pretty much, nothing rough, like on the chevy commercials where they drop steal beams in the bed, lol. But i would like to sell firewood and do landscaping very shortly now that summer has arrived, so it will see its fair share of wild throws of cut wood or something. But anyways, thanks guys i appreciate all the input, feel free to add more. I'm kind of leaning toward drop-in because it seems a little more durable with throwing wood on it, etc. Thanks again all... I'm in the construction business as well (Heating, Cooling and Plumbing) but old fuel oil and soot will go in the back of the company truck!
jamashke Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 I went with the Line-X over the rail spray on as well. They have a Lifetime warranty against fading as well. The drop in and spray on would probably be a good combo if you are looking to trade in a few years. OH one more thing I just remembered...In my '01 I had a drop in. When it got hot (90 degrees or better) the thing would buckle in the center. So versus a flat area the thing would look like I had a big bubble in the bed of my truck. So far with the spray on the only thing I have destroyed is the dumb plastic piece over the tailgate that GM puts on the 2500's.

Well worth the extra money vs. a drop-in liner.

lazer Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 I've had drop in liners in my last 3 trucks. I don't know what they do to the paint on the box because when the truck goes, so does the bedliner with it. I'm happy with the drop in. If your are going to do firewood the first thing I would get is a window protector. I learned the hard way many years ago as the chunk of forewood went through my back window.
Jester4736w Posted April 12, 2005 Author Posted April 12, 2005 LoL, thanks lazer... Already been looking around at those. Needgasmoney - I'll take that into consideration, thanks!
05_2500HD Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 If you spend the little extra $ for a Duraliner drop in you won't have any problems of buckling, moving around, etc....my 2000 Z71 had an under rail liner for 3 years - when I took it out to trade it in the bed looked new still...I have ONLY used Duraliners.....just my opinion....
Ron J Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 I think the "facts" web site belongs to the plastic bed liner association. Sounds like BS to me. I've had both. I think Line-x is the best although I have a rhino and...something else.
bigdogs Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 I also have a LineX in mine and think they are great, If you are worried about denting it you can always throw in a rubber horse stall mat on top of the spray in (they are like 3/4" thick rubber and come in 4x6 sheets) .
