Hitch lock help....

Recommended Posts

Does anyone make a receiver hitch lock that doesn't rust? The last one I purchased was "stainless steel" but was rusting in short order. Any suggestions and/or links would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Daubs

I'd like to know too...What I've been doing is when I tow my trailer somewhere I put the lock on the hitch and trailer when I get there and back off before I leave and put the pin back thru...kind of a pain but don't have to keep buying locks after they rust up and get ruined.

Does like I did. Just soak the lock for a while in a can of warm gear oil from time to time and it will never lock up on you again. Motor oil does not last as long.

Fulton makes good products....Use the locks for my receiver and for my boat and have never had any rust problems...Had them for about 4 or 5 years now and still good as new.....I beleive they sell them at Walmart

It is not the water as much as the road salt in winter that can be hard on them. By soaking them I would use regular key type master locks and never have a problem.

Sorry, no snow here in Georgia...

I would say it is pretty rare there too though it has happened a few times that I recall. When I lived in Montana were I was at it could snow any month of the year with July and august snow being the rarest and may/june and september snow not that rare. I was pretty much a sure thing from October until April though.

I got one of the no names from Wally World, and it hasn't rusted yet. I don't ever remove mine though, It could rust up solid and it wouldn't matter. When I traded in my toyota I went to get the receiver off but realized I lost the key a long time ago. I would probably loose the key before the rust set in!!!!

I have been using Master stainless for a while now. Again, I am not in the snow, but I have had no problems up to now. Found it at Walmart.

Googled stainless locks and found this one:

The Worlds Toughest Locks

O-ring to keep moisture out and machined from stainless steel sound good to me.

I might go with this one...

That looks almost identical to mine, and it's got rust spots on it.

Although the keyhole has a rubber boot covering it, to prevent corrosion there.
