Avalanche SoundSystem Install

Recommended Posts

Well, here's my first draft at the system for my Avalanche... whatcha think?

HU: JVC KD-SH99 (Have from previous install)

Front: CDT HD-62DT: http://www.cdtaudio.com/hd42_cdt4.htm

Rear Fill: CDT CL-5X: http://www.cdtaudio.com/classislimcoaxial.htm

Sub: JLAudio Stealthbox: http://www.jlaudio.com/stealthbox/silverado_consol.html

Front/Rear/Sub Amp: JLAudio 500/5: http://www.jlaudio.com/amps/5005.html

Oh and an interface for the OnStar compatibility:

Only problem with it I may loose a little console space and the functionallity if the rear a/c vents...unless I can find a way to work around it...maybe flex-tubing (like dryer venting) or something...

Looks like you're going to have a sweet set up.  I was thinking about that stealth box set up as well.  I'm not worried about tearing out the vents because I never hooked mine up when I added the console.  They are sitting in my room as we speak.  I guess, no one sits in the back so why bother.  I'm sure you'd be able to get some smaller tubing and run it alongside the storage compartment, there's a couple of inches of dead space in it.  I was actuall thinking about putting a cd changer under it or my cb, but I ended up putting my CB in the CD storage compartment.

I have never even heard of these speakers you are planning on using, maybe they are the best since sliced bread, but if it was my money, I would be using MB Quart speakers.  They have been proven so many times on the competition front that it is not funny.  They have the reputation of defining "high end" when it comes to car stereo.  Trust me, I have tried other speakers as well, I even competed in IASCA for a while, and I would buy nothing but MB Quart for my vehicles.

On a side note, I also have a MB Quart home theatre system that is just as good as their mobile audio. :)

Later.

Good choice, stay with JL Audio, nothing comes close. One thing I found wrong, I don't think JL has a stealthbox for the AV yet. They do make two different boxes for the Silverado, one for the center console and one for the back seat. I have the Stealthbox for the back seat, one 12" sub, it rocks.

How much does the stealthbox cost.  I was thinking about eventually upgrading my speakers w/ some Infinity's and getting the center console stealth box.

i would be a little afraid of the jl 500/5 the anywhere from 4ohm to 1.5 ohm the power rating is the same even with voltage increase. i've never been impressed by JL. i love multichannel amps. and i've done a lot of research if you want more choices unless your mind is set. personally if i had the money i would have gotten the new memphis belle, its a monster 75x4 @ 4ohm + 1100x1 class d basicly 2 amps one big chassis (26" long) class ab for the 4 channels and a class d for the sub.

i personally run the autotek sx-5750. really nice amp priced very well i got it for 300ish  from their site its listed at 1 ohm stable tho i have no plans to run it at 1 ohm on any channel. its real clean with my DEI Components.

The stealthbox I have is the one that goes under the backseat, it's about 500-550.00. It comes with a W3 12" sub preloaded. The center console box I think has a 10" sub, it also cheaper but doesn't have the as@ like the bigger box. The box I have sounds unreal for one sub being back there. JL also recenlty came out with a new line of amps, they too are supposed to also be unbeatable, I heard that from many people that know this shi% real well. I have a Phoneix Gold, it too is a great amp, it's pure power, not one of these cheap as# amp's that claim 300 watts and actually produce 80 watts.

If your just looking for an enclosure, you should try Ai Research and MTX.  I believe both sell custom enclosures without subs, why pay for a sub that your not going to use???

I had the JL steathbox (center console) in my '97 Tahoe, it was OK, but it really rocked when I changed the sub to a PPI flat piston sub.  The JL boxes seem to have limitations as far as how much power they will take and how low of a frequency they will play.

Well, the thread jumped a little.  For you audiophile experts, I am looking to upgrade my Avalanche, retaining the factory headend.

I want to replace the factory speakers, add an amp to drive all four, add a su and amp.

What do you suggest?
