Transmission Rebuild 95 Suburban 4X4 1/2 ton

Dear Group,

I will be having a transmission rebuild performed soon. Slippage getting to bother me in 1/2 and 2/3 shifts at moderate acceleration.

The tranny presently is the 4L60E with a TCI Trans-scat shift kit.

I plan to upgrade the engine at a later date with some mods for greater torque/HP in the 300 range and likely do a lift with some larger tires in the future.

Should I go with a upgrade on the torque converter at this time as well and if so what would you recommend?

Thanking You In Advance,

Glenn

unless you are going to go w/ a heavy cam w/ a big lope, I would stick to a smaller converter to keep mpg sensible. If you are just going with a little larger than stock cam, I would recommend around a 2k converter. I had a TCI Super Street Fighter 3200 rpm stall in my truck, loved it, but was a little high for my application. They aren't as expensive as some of the others, camaro guys swear by Yank converters, but I didn't have a single problem with mine.. well, I had to rim one of the bolt holes out on the flywheel slightly, but other than that, loved it. And I didn't dare check my mpg after I installed it. :D

You want to match the stall converter to your gears / cam / tires that you are going to be running. Contact the converter manufacturer of your choice, tell them your setup and they will recommend the stall you need.

good luck!
