Trimming Question

Recommended Posts

Posted

I may be getting my 305/70/16 MT's on my stock HD wheels tomorrow morning.

This tire place is about 20 miles away, will I make it home okay if the tire place doesn't trim my air dam?

Should I trim it tonight?

I have this vision of me turning and the MT lugs ripping my entire air dam off. LOL

It's probably better to be safe and trim tonight. My 285/75/16's woulda hit if I didn't trim first, and I cranked my t-bars also.

Just trim a bit that way there's not the "hook" on the plastic piece to catch. Just put some masking tape on there and try to line it up with the bumper line and trim er up.

The cleanest looking way in my opinion is to start at the top and trim at an angle. I think I trimmed 1/2 inch in the end off mine (running 295's) Looks alot cleaner to trim back at angle from the top. /

If you trim straight down it looks kinda funny because there is a gap at the top where it meets the bumper.....line the tape from the edge of the bumpber at an angle going down......not sure about doing it without the wheels on though...take some tape and the dremel with you (or tin snips work) I used my battery powered dremel....I'd do it in the parking lot after the truck comes off the rack!

You could always just pull the air dam off before you get the tires and put it back on when you get home. Then piddle with it in your driveway.
