Just what is a 2500?

I am looking at a 99 Silverado 2500 ext cab short box with a Fisher plow. I am just looking for a little clarification on the difference between the 1500, 1500HD, 2500, 2500HD.

I tried doing a search, but I must not be using the magic word.

The 2500 motor is bigger, greater towing capacity, tongue/bed weight. Basically you're getting a truck that can do more than the reg. 1500's can. Although that comes with a price, bad gas mileage, rougher ride etc. The 1500 HD has the 6.0l in it with the beefed up suspension.

Yes, a 2500's motor is always larger in the NBS trucks. 6.0ltr is the base with an 8.1 and 6.6ltr diesel as options in the HD line. I am assuming you are looking at 2500LD which would be an 8600gvw. The 6.0ltr is the only option for that truck just as the 5.3 is the only option in the 1500LD. 1500HD is also a 8600gvw based on the 2500LD frame. It comes standard with the 6.0ltr, crew cab and 4wd. Hope this helps.

Thanks. Yes, it is a 2500LD. This has been helpful. Is this a different frame and suspension than a 1500? Is it considered a 3/4 ton?

Yes it is considered a 3/4ton and it does have beefier suspension and frame to support the addtional weight. They also have larger axles 8 bolt versus 6 both on the 1500. If you plan to do a considerable amount of plowing you might want to consider a HD truck and with this truck make sure all the front end components are not worn out from the extra weight and abuse of the plow.
