Truck back to the dealer

I decided to take in the crew for some small aggrevating things this week. I had a shutter in the tranny shift between 1 & 2 maybe 1 or 2 times a month. Got a tranny reprogrammed with newest software update. Mileage had dropped in the last month to 6 weeks. Also reprogrammed vehicle computer. According to the DIC mileage is back where it was. Had a steering squeek (posted about this earlier) when turning the wheel left...dealer replaced steering gear--problem solved. And while I was there I thought I'd mention the driveline clunk problem....they replaced the entire driveshaft. I really didn't pay that much attention to the driveline clunk until they put the new shaft in....smooth as silk now. (I thought they were just replacing the yolk with a nickel plated one, but the service writer said the newest TSB called for an entirely new driveshaft....wasn't going to argue about that either)

Anyway I just had to post how great a service dept Alleghany Chevy in Sparta NC has. I didn't even buy the truck from them, but they were awesome in fixing these little problems. No run around, no BS. They just fixed everything I asked for. I wish my local dealer that I purchased from was 1/2 as good. Anyway I thought it was worth noting a good dealer experience....don't read about those often enough on the board.

Good to Hear! There are some good ones out there. I recently had my dealer replace the steering shaft for free and almost 30k mile out of my warranty. They were nice as could be and happy to help. They have earned my business back. Wish they were all like that!!!

Please Please Please find out the TSB number for the drive shaft replacement. You would be helping out a whole bunch of us who are suffering terribly with this problem.

I guess since I can't post the TSB here I should at least tell you what it says....

Heres what it says for the customer Condition/Concern:

"Some customers may comment on a ping, pop or click noise from underneath the rear of the vehicle, when shifting into reverse or drive,or out of reverse into drive or possibly drive to reverse."

It then goes on to give you the various part numbers for whatever model truck you have.

I should note that not all model trucks are involved or mentioned,Just the 1/2 ton four-wheel drives in the ext.cab short-bed or the 1/2 ton four wheel drive crew-cabs (Both being a 143.5" WB) or the 1/2 ton two-wheel drives in the reg.cab long-bed with the 4L60E (M30) trans. and either 3.23 or 3.42 axle ratio.

I just got my 04' Z71 back from the garage and it's now on it's 3rd driveshaft in 30,000 miles.. the early warning appears to be the clicking sound that mimics caliper slap. I've been well-taken care of by the guys at Heritage in Alexandria, VA, but the fact that I need a new driveshaft every year scares me. I'm glad to see there's a TSB for it and will be making sure I keep that little nugget of info in the truck!!
