Leaking Transmission???

Iv'e got a leak but I don't know how to describe it but I will try my best. It looks like i'm leaking transmission fluid from where the drive shaft meets up with the back of the transmission. Is there a seal there that I need to replace or something? Would it cost a lot to have it done? I can do minor stuff to vehicles but I don't know about this job. What do you guys think is the cause of the leak? Thanks for any replys!!!

I have the same leak. I think the seal is $6.88. Remove the shaft, remove the old seal, install the new one and reinstall the shaft. Should be easy. But then again, I have not done mine yet.

Pretty easy job if it's like most auto trannies.

Thanks for the info guys. IS this a hard job to do? What is that seal called that it's leaking from? Any idea on how much someone would charge to do it? Thanks Again

I think it's called the slip-yoke seal. It's an easy job. If you can handle most of your own maintenance, then this shouldn't be too hard for you.

 

How much would you be charged ?? Too much !!!

Some people call it the output shaft seal as well. If you have a little bit of wrenching expirence, then you should be able to do it. If not, I do not see why anyone would charge you over 1 hour to do the job, I could do it in less than that if I had a lift to work off of.

Even lying on your back in the driveway shouldn't take more than an hour.

Heck, in some case, the sucker is a little too high !!!!!

Is the seal inside where the shaft meets up at? That is where it looks like it's leaking from. Thanks for all the replys

There is a bushing type of thing in there and a oil seal. you can get the both of them in a kit for $13 or just the oil seal for $6. I got the kit just incase I open mine up and need both of them.
