Got a tip for everyone

Hey everyone. Recently I replaced the passenger-side horn on my truck because due to heavy rain it pooped out on me. My truck sounded like a friggin' Saturn with only one note. Well, we had 3 days of very heavy Arizona 'monsoon' rain and the new horn did the same thing. I said, "I'll be darned if I'm gonna pay the dealer another $50.00 for another horn." So, since I had nothing to lose, I took the horn off, shook it and got all of the water out. Then, I filled it with WD40 and swished it around and drained that. Then, I re-installed the horn, pressed the horn button for about 10 seconds and that freed it up. Good as new. I hope this helps someone.

One more tip...don't pay the dealer $50 for a horn.

 

You can get the same horn (Flamm) at Pepboys for less than $20.

Some European car horns used to (maybe still) have this problem. The standard solution in the '70s was to wrap them in a plastic bread bag.

 

However, your solution may work better and, if you don't get all the WD-40 out, maybe a wonderful gurgling sound.

I can't believe this is still happening ... I had to replace the high note on my 98 Z28 3 times, and my 01 Hoe 2x ... all under warranty - seems like GM and/or the supplier would have fixed the problem by now!
