If I remember correctly, stick a small screwdriver under one end and carefully pry up and out of the groove. Use a second tip to work around the edges while you are holding the first end up and it should pop out.

That method should work. It's called a snap ring. Mechanics use snap ring pliers for them =).

I do not remember it being a snap ring that would use those pliers when I did my fuel pump, but maybe.

I didnt describe it very well cause at the time I was pissed off about it

Its a metal ring about 10 inches in diameter that locks down on the gas tank by some metal prongs when you sping it counter clockwise itll come offr and clocwise to tighten it

I dump an entire can of pb blaster on it and let it sit while I ate dinner and it finnally came off

everything was going soooo smoothly till that

for guys doing a fuel pump

there is no way taking the bed off could be easier on these trucks

it took a solid 15 minutes to get the tank out

I used a floor jack and a piece of plywood 2 foot by 3 foot and just lowered it down

spen about an hour getting that d**n lockring off and about 45 minutes putting the tank back in

ive never done a fuel pump before but i am fairly mechanical and i was working by myself

my tank had about 1/4- 1/8 a tank of gas

the guages in these things arent worth a s**t

the light came on to tell me I had low fuel and i parked it right aroun that time to do the pump

hahah that tank weighed like 75 lbs still

if i had a gas tank or 5 gallon tank to put cas in it would have bee a hell of alot easier to put that tank back in

Its plastic so the tank itsself isnt heavy

I just used a pair of snap ring pliers when I replaced my fuel pump last week. It turned pretty easily once I used the snap ring pliers.

good luck,

Michael
