If it is 5.3 it will be flex-fuel and you will have an external fuel filter. It will be right under the drivers door on the inside of the frame rail.

I basically did everything your mentioning between 50-65K but I have owned since new so I know how it was treated. If I just bought it used I do it all. None of it is too expensive if you do it yourself.

Don't for get tranny fluid. I would worry about this more that transfer case or diffs. I would at least drain and top off to get some fresh fluid. Probably drop the pan and change filter too.

I would recommend Synthetic in the front and rear diff and transmission. I used Mobil-1

Have to get the transfer case fluid from GM. $20-30 dollars from the dealer.

Plugs could wait a little but they are cheap and aren't hard to change.

Transfer case and front diff are easy. I had the dealer do the fuel filter because there is a special tool to disconnect it. Cost about $60 and 30 minutes to do at dealer.

Things that are a pain - Rear diff has to have the cover removed to drain. There is little clearance from the panhard(sp?) bar. Not too bad but not as easy as a truck. Transmissions service - The drain plug will be very, very tight. Make sure you have a good 6 point socket and long handle rachet or cheater bar. Be carefull it is about 50/50 as to who gets them loose or strips the head of the plug. If you drop the pan you need a t-40 or t-45 torx to move the shift linkage out of the way. Some people bend the linkage out of the way. I prefer removing the 2 torx.

THanks for the great info..

I agree w/ all.

Tranny, I guess I was just going to have done at one of those pump out - suck in deals.. Thoughts?

Yeah, I agree its early for a lot of these items, but like you said, you have owned your truck since new...I have no idea the history..

yes it is a 5.3, Any reason the fuel filter is diff than the o1? I didnt need special tools for that one, and sounds like its in the same location as my 01..

But heym I dono! :sigh:

Some sort of quick disconnect on one side of the filter. Can probably be done with some pliers or something. I just paid the dealer to do it because it was a dealer only part. None of the parts places had the fuel filter. They said the filter is a dealer only item because of the flex-fuel engine. The filter looks like a regular filter with a plastic clip on one end and threaded pipe fitting on the other. I would assume the internal may be different due to the high ethanol fuel.
