Tune Up Question

Recommended Posts

Posted

I just purchased my truck a couple of months ago and had not really done a tune up on it yet. I wanted to replace the plugs and wires just so i can have a clean start with them all. My question is, what type of plugs/wires combo do you suggest. i dont really want just replacements. maybe a little bit of an upgrade. nothing too extreme.

Also, any other things you guys may reccomend to do at tune up time? i want to treat spoil this truck... like many of you other guys do im sure!

thanks!

You can't beat AC Delco when it comes to plugs and wires. The spark plugs in that truck are 100k mile plugs. On my 99 Silverado, one fouled at 85K and my dealer replaced it (I had to actually change it) for free. I just told him, if GM was going to advertise 100k plugs that they had better deliver. He said, "your right" and went to the parts department and handed me a new plug. If it runs smooth, I would let the plugs go for awhile. Other guys on this site change theirs relatively often so it is strictly up to you. I always change my oil every 3k and fuel filter every 10k. I just stay on top of everything else. With my 96, I was replacing tranny and transfer case fluids, spark plugs, wires, filters, etc. very often and it just turned out to be a waste of money. These newer trucks are relatively maintenence free if you take care of them. Besides fuel filter, oil and filter, and air filter changes, I would wait until about 80k to sink a bunch of money into it. I'm an enthusiast, so I am probably going to get flamed for this reply  .

The guy who drives my previous truck (99 silverado) has 220k miles and still going strong. Dumb luck, maybe.
