Can you Add a subwoofer ?

I am wondering if you can add say a subwoofer to the cargo area, driver-side area where the fake grille appears.

Is it too close to the jack/misc to install a say 8" back there after you cut out the grille.

Has there ever been a speaker back there or is it just for looks... ???

Any ideas / suggestions in installing one back there in that spot ?

THere is a subwoofer in there. It sucks, but there is an 8 inch in there. I replaced mine with a JBL 8 inch and Rockford amp. It makes a HUGE difference. I used the stock HU to keep everything looking stock, had to wire in the amp using the rear speakers and remote line from the stock unit. When you change out the speaker, the old holes don't match up, but its not a big deal. Just drill out the new ones and put in the screws. Don't use the old wire, just run a new one from the amp into the box and put the others off the side. Taking off that plastic covering to get to the speaker is kind of a biatch, but it is definately worth taking the time to do. If you have questions, ask away. Its a cheap and fun project that makes a huge difference!

Not sure what kind of truck you have but mine does not have a speaker behind it. It's a fake grille with not speaker.

I am sure your solution sounds very nice with your additional amp etc.

I am thinking that the jack and tools stored behind it make it impossible to get a speaker back there of any consequence.

What year, make, model of truck do you have...I have an 04' Hoe LS

I have a 2002 yukon. My jack and everything is also in there. Have you taken a flashlight and looked in the grill or is the grill not even open at all?

Don't need a flashlight, just a fake grille...I read somewhere where the sub's were installed in the console....GM just didn't re-tool the mold for the cargo area....

I'd like to install one there but don't know how to wire it up so it'd work with the existing UB1 standard radio.....any ideas...

best soluction is to wire a high level converter to give you Signal and remote turn on, then wire up an aftermarket amp and sub. Not sure on any aftermarket sub boxs for the space, but you could prolly get a oem box from a earlier tahoe and it would fit
