Engine Noise

My 2000 crew cab dually has been getting to me lately. I use it for towing our trailer and bikes. It has a 7.4L gas engine so when it is loaded down with everything I keep it in drive (not overdrive) so when I go up a steep hill the engine noise higher because of the reving and the noise is getting to me. It just has moments of being too loud for too long. Know what I mean? I don't think there is anything wrong with it but I could be wrong too. It's only the engine noise because I have put on a Gibson cat back system and noise wise it is the same as before. I was just wondering if anyone has put in some extra sound dampening material in their cab? What did they use? I was going to maybe try and insulte more on the fire wall between the cab and engine. I am just not sure how to go about it.

There is a product out there called dynamat. It works amazing, and will even quiet down a cummins dodge to where you can actually have a conversation while it is running.

Just make sure that all of your noise is comming from the firewall or body panals before you invest it in. Remember you can't stop the noise from comming in your windows, and thats where I get most of my noise. So if you are getting little noise through the body panels and most from your glass, I wouldn't bother.

To install it, it is fairly simple, remove the carpeting, cut and lay out the dynamatting, and put the carpets back in. Make sure if you do your doors not to cover any drain holes, that will not let the water leak out, and will cause the bottom of the door to rust quickly.

Ditto on "snyps" comments.

I've used dynamat in my last 4 vehicles and the difference is amazing.

So far on the 2500 I've done the firewall and floor. I plan to do the doors as soon as I get a bag of door panel clips, since the lil' b@st@rds always break or strip.

I did the sound mat for noise going out as much as noise coming in though. Dated a girl once that jammed to '80s hits 24/7. Do you know how embarasing it is to be at a stoplight with Devo blaring from your radio? :chevy:
