This weekend I have to replace the power steering hoses on my 98 gmc savana 2500 (2wd 5.7L vortec). The high pressure line leaks fluid. I've decided to replace the hose between the fluid reservoir and the ps pump while i'm at it. New hoses from the dealer will arrive tomorrow.

Replacing the hoses is self explanitory, but I have a question about putting it back together PROPERLY.

Can i install the new hoses, refill the reservoir, check for leaks and be done with it?

If bleeding is required, what needs to be done to remove all the air?

thanks to all who participate

Usually. They're pretty much self-bleeding. If you have a noise that sounds like low fluid when all is said and done, you may have some air trapped. The recommended method is to turn the steering wheel lock to lock 25 times or so WITH THE ENGINE OFF. This obviously means the front wheel have to be off the ground. I don't think even Arnie could turn that thing 25 times lock to lock with no power assist and the weight of the truck on the wheels.

Thanks for the info. My buddy said pretty much the same thing, except he didn't mention jacking up the front end and leaving the truck off. I'll jack up the front of the van and do 25 left to right turns and see what happens.
