2002 GMC cd/cassette question

I have the factory single cd/cassette in the console unit. I NEVER listen to any cassettes, and the only thing I use it for is to listen to my xm radio. What I would like to do is to have sound quality from the XM radio better than using the cassette adapter.

My question is if there is a way to splice the audio out from the cassette player to a 1/4" headphone plug, so I can plug it directly into my xm radio. If it's possible, I would like to pull the cassette player out, and either fabricate a blank plate, a deep pocket, or, mount my xm radio in the spot where the cassette player was. I'm not sure if by doing this will freak out the head unit, and I'm not about to go splicing wires without know if it can be done or not.

I'm pretty sure that there are adapters out there that would allow you to interface directly with the factory stereo. But I haven't done an install on it, so there may be other options.

I'll move this to a more appropriate forum where you'll more likely get better answers.

Thanks for moving it to the right topic; I thought there was a topic in here that dealt with sound, but, couldn't find it last night. Just needed more sleep

I looked at the AAI-GM9, and it looks like it would work. The only drawback from what I've found is that it doesn't take the cassette out of the picture, and in order to use it, you have to have a cassette playing to use the audio.

So, I did some googling (which is what I should've done to begin with).

I found this adapter that completely replaces the slave unit (in my case the cassette player). I'm going to research it a little more to make double sure it'll work with my setup. I'd much rather not have to have a cassette tape playing all the time just to listen to XM

Seems to me that you could just jump a connector to make it think it was playing. I would call them and ask them how it works.

This one looks like it might work too...And you'll be able to keep your cassette to boot (not sure who still buys those though), so wooo-freakin-hoo.

Like I said, Give JP Customs a call (or Crutchfield for that matter), and they'd probably be more than happy to help you out.

Bottom line is, I don't think you'll have to do any splicing, or jury-rigging to make this work. There most likely is an adapter out there that will satisfy your needs.
