g80 cooked

well, i cooked my g80 locking diff. The diff still works fine for normal use, but when the thingys swing out to lock the diff, everything works well, but the clutch plates on the drivers side don't seem to grab each other at all. So, has anyone rebult their g80, or is there a better replacement that works in the standard carrier with out messing with the ring and pinion?

You *could* buy the rebuild parts and rebuild it, but the 2 rods are are inside pressed in housings. A total BIOTCH to pull out. There are also some tiny little springs that are very hard to reset. Also, the G80 carrier is useless as an Open Carrier. By its design you can't/Shouldn't install an Insertable Locker or Mini-Spool.

For the money you will spend I would buy an Eaton "Posi" LSD. I replaced my G80 with an Eaton "Posi" ($300.00) and NEVER regretted it. This was in a 2000 Z-72 with 37" Super Swampers. Was always there when I needed it.

The Auburn Pro ($300.00) is another good unit and then there is the expensive, undestructible, noisey, notchy, and No Excuses Off-road performance Detroit Locker. ($600.00)
