Recirculation vent noise creaking

I have a squealing noise coming from the passenger side dash. I have traced it to the recirculation vent for the HVAC system. The squealing started intermittantly but then progressed to a constant squeak squeal, It doeas it with the blower on or off, the truck running or not. If I pull the glove box door down all the way and touch the recirc door with my finger it stops. I'm thinking the little actuator motor in there is trying to park the vent but can't. If you push the recirc button it stops while the door switches from open to closed, but once it reaches it's stop it starts again.

My question is, could this be the heater controls? If it is the actuator for the recirc vent do I have to pull the dash all the way out to fix it (no warranty left)? please help it is driving me nuts, I'm about to cut the wire to it or something. Thanks!!

I never heard any of the actuators squeal, but if you touch the door and it stops, it sounds like that's probably what it is.

You DON'T want to tackle this one. It's a bear. Yeah, you have to pull the whole dash apart to get to it. At least that's what our service information says. Never had the honor of having to replace one, but it does not look like fun.

Yeah I was browsing my service manual CD and it dosen't look like any fun at all. Lucky me. I am a fairly compotent backyard mechanic...I say that because I'm not a professional but have tons of experience and have put together quite a few cars. I don't know that my wallet can afford to take a $1000+ ding right now either. The book says everything has to come out from the seats and console to the dash...man what a great design! (not) Anyway thanks, I was kind of hoping it was the HVAC control module (I don't have auto HVAC) . I was gonna go to the dealer and have them diagnose it, but now I'm thinking just save the $59.95 and put it towards the new actuator. Thanks again.

I had a problem with my actuator on my 02 it was stuck in the outside air function. My service manual says to take the whole dash apart but i took out the glove box and was able to get to the actuator and remove it. use a mirror to see the screws, it was easier than taking off dash. Hope this helps
