What is EVO?

I have an electrical coinnector on the back of my power steering pump that I am trying to change. I have a pulley puller kit, and when I was loosening the pulley I heard a big "ka-PANG" noise when I was taking off the pulley. I thought for sure I had broken something, but it turned out it was just the pulley bitching while coming off.

 

I want to know what exactly is EVO? I have never heard of it. I was reading the post just a minute ago and gathers it makes some kind of feel as speed changes? My steering is so sensitive, I could turn the wheel completely left and right with my little finger. I think my steering is "too" powered.

 

As for the pump change, I cant get the old pump out, and it was getting too dark to monkey with it, I think I need to pull the engine hoise pulley to make sure everything is out of the way. Why does it seem EVERYTHING is a bitch to do anymore,lol?

Electronic Variable Orifice = EVO

 

The idea is power assists is varied based upon a number of variables. Like low speed in a parking lot manuever - Lots of power assist. Driving down highway changing lanes - very little power assist.

 

There is a donut shaped sensor around the steering column above the brake pedal. It senses postion of the steering column and sends messages to the computer. The computer determines how much assist it THINKS it needs. A variable sized orifice allows assist to be metered by opening for more assist and closing for less assist.

 

Some have had success cleaning the sensor by blasting it with wd-40 and turning the wheel. I replaced mine at about 75K and have not had any more problenms with it and now at 157K.
