Fitting 285's on my 1/2 ton

well Ladies and Gentlmen,

It's tire time and since I'm shelling out the dough might as well go as big as I can.

Now the trucks an 04 1/2 4x4, it came with 245's. I know 265's will fit no problembut here's the deal;

My Dad has an 03 1/2tonHD and he has replaced the front A-arms with Z71 a-arms to level the truck off. Then he threw th 285's beneath and it looks f'in awesome.

My questions can I do this? has anyone done this? I know i can just crank the torsion bars but then I've been told I have to trim alittle of the front valence and lose alot of the ride quality.

I'm sure this topics been beat to death but any help would certainly be appreciated.

If you're using the stock rims (or if the offset on the aftermarket rim is the same as stock) you shouldn't have to trim much, if at all.

My '02 didn't require any trimming with 285's until I put new rims on with more offset. And I didn't have to crank the bars at all for them to fit...I did it anyway, because it just looks better. :shakehead:

Also, If you don't crank the bars all the way to the stops, and install some longer shocks up front, you will not lose much ride quality.

Thanks,

I'm thinking that because you HAVE Z71 a-arms you didn't need to crank the bars glad to here they fit without trimming.

My uncle has an 02 4x4 and he is running 305/70-16's, his truck originally came equipped with the 245s that are on your truck. He raised the torsion bars, and his 305's fit with no problem! no trimming involved, and the truck still rides great! :chevrolet:
