thinking of getting a new quad

I'm thinking about getting a new four wheeler to aid in snow removal this winter. I really don't want to put a plow on my truck, so I'm thinking a quad with a plow may be the ticket. I have about 250' of paved driveway, 125' of it is uphill. I am also in upstate NY (albany area), so I will be plowing quite regularly this winter.

The honda Rincon 650 4WD is available @ $5,699.00 in my area. Looks like a good machine. I am going to shop around this week. Anyone who has experience with a quad/plow, let me know if you think that this might be a practical venture? :chevrolet:

Alot of people like the Rincon. There are 2 common things people don't like. 1. There was no engine braking on the old ones, I don't know how the new ones are. 2. No locker. I would also look at the King Quad and Vinsons by Suzuki. Kawasaki makes a 650BF, 700 Prairie, and a 750BF. Ride all of them and then make up your mind. Good luck with the buy.

We currently have a Polaris Sportsman that we used to plow with. We would plow the walkways and it did a great job for two maine winters. Sold the plow as the walkways are much more expensive now to plow on, but we still have the Sportsman. Great machine in my eyes. No chain to fall off either, direct drive is a great.

That's a really good price on the Rincon! The 2006 models are changing to 675cc with fuel injection amongst other things. I've got a pretty much stock 2005 and like it, haven't swithed the plow over to it yet though from the 1990 300 4x.

Only drawback I've got with the Rincon is it's pretty cold blooded after it sits for a couple weeks or so. Some say that is fixed with a pipe and some carb tuning, but I haven't spent the money for that yet. Couple shots on the carb primer and it's good to go though, just need to let the tranny fluid warm up a little so it runs and shifts properly.

Best thing about it is that you don't have to switch to low range and stuff. I think it would actually be easier plowing with the Rincon than some others due to the easy shifting. Regardless, plowing with an ATV is way more fun than shovels or a snowblower!

Well, after a week of checking out all of the machines side by side, I decided to go with the Suzuki Vinson 500 auto. I just picked it up last night, just unloaded it. Since I am working today, I probably won't get a chance to ride it until tomorrow. I also got the cycle country 52" state plow with it. It looks pretty stout with the plow. No snow yet, But they are calling for it next week. I will post pics this weekend. Thanks to all for the input. :flag:

Yeah, I know , but the wife can't understand these things (even though it is a automatic clutch), yet get what you get. I had almost 4" of snow today and it was a walk in the park to clean it, so just can't wait for more.
