My wife was driving down the interstate and then she had no drivetrain. She was able to get off the side of the road and call me. I went out there and sure enough put the car in drive, reverse, d1, d2 and no dice. I put the truck in 4WD Hi and drive and the truck moved forward. I put the truck back in 2WD Hi and drive it all the way home with no problems. About 10 miles. What happened? Is this electrical sync problem or the prelude to a bigger problem.

No clue what happened. The transfer case might have gone to neutral, but I have never heard of that happening and I'm not sure it's even possible.

I have no idea either. My wife has told me she won't drive it anymore until I fix it. I told her I guess she won't be driving it becasue I don't know what to fix or even tell a shop what to look at.

I do have another strange problem with the fuel pump. I replaced it about year ago but for some reason every once in a while it will act like it gone out again. I go out behind the left rear wheel and tug on the electrical wires running to the fuel pump ant presto. It works fine and will be some randome day when I have the same problem again. Could it be the connector or a short in the wires causing this? I just wonder now if the original fuel pump was bad or did I spend $400 for nothing.

Quite frequently, when the pump goes it first draws excessive current and oveheats the wiring and connector at the top of the sending unit. I've seen more than one tech put in a pump only to have to pull the tank down again because they didn't examine those connections.

That's what I would suspect is wrong in your case. No, you probably didn't replace the pump for nothing, you may have just overlooked the other problem it caused.
