Hey all,

Have a 99 GMC Sierra EX-CAB 6.0 Auto. New Process C246 transfer. Was having the Service 4WD drive light on like everyone. Replaced the switch.. Problem is My front end is disengaging but my front driveshaft stays locked. I dont know for sure if this in normal. Went to the dealership today and checked all the others I grabbed the front shaft and they all turn free. So ?? Is mine supposed to turn free? When switching I hear it going to 4high, 4lo, and back 2wd. But is it not releasing enough? So that would be the transfer switch. Help?? Also having the Bog problem but want to get the 4WD fxed first.. Thanks!! Mark

I would check the actuator in transfer case first. There should be one in the transfer and one in the front diff. If that one is stuck it might cause that to happen.

Checked the front one its good. I can hear the transfer shifting. From what I read on here the 246 transfer keeps the front driveshaft engaged. So I am wondering now if the vibraton is the side bearing in the diff. Taking it to the dealer to see what they say.. Just hate to spend the money there when I am capable of doing the job myself. Just dont have the special tools and have been out of the GM garage to long to keep up with all the updates. Last GM school I went to was in 1989 LOL. This board is awesome.. Got allot of good info here.. Thanks.. Mark

Well the main reason I started this was because I had a growlimg noise coming form the front.. Started checking stuff.. Dealer wanted to check the front end. I wasnt happy with that just yet. So kept checking.. Turned out to be the Left front wheel bearing/Hub Assy. So $226.00 later all problems solved.. Was doing the ol driving around a curve road. Everytime I turned right the noise went away.. So there ya have it.. Thanks for all the advice.. Mark
