steel braid brake lines

Ok guy's I have a opinion on steel braid brake lines now. I purchased the russel dot approved steel braid brake line set. I have both good and bad news. The good news is the brake lines made a world of difference in brake feel. I would say 75-80% of the mush is gone. After the install I came by the house and picked up the girl friend. She made it out of the drive way and 50 ft to the stop sign and said "Wow thats alot better" .

If you really stand on them you can feel the mush but is nowhere as bad.

Now for the bad. I don't know if I got a bad set or not. My front hard lines would not screw into the russel line. I even called edelbrock asking if they had ever gotten complaints or returns on incorrect threading. He said no never then put me on hold for 15 min. I hung up before he came back. I had picked up a brake line and the 1/4 line nut screwed into the russel line perfectly. I had two choices at this point. Box them back up send tham back to summit and await my replacements and hope they fit. The rears fit perfect so why wouldn't the fronts. I ended up changing out the line nut and reflaring the line(yes it was a double flare) It took 15-20 mins extra a side. Being a tech this was acceptable to me. It cost me time but no return shipping as I already had the tools needed to do it correctly. One thing that was weird is I tried all of the russel lines that had 1/4 fittings and none would hook up to the front hard lines. The rear center hose screwed right into the factory hard line. supposed to be the same as the front. Maybe I had a freak vehicle? the russel lines were $117. shipped They have earls for $122 Heck of a price for 5 street legal steel braid lines that greatly improve the braking feel.

interesting they should have fit. The other part number i listed was for a 1500-3500HD 2 or 4WD. was it the wrong thread pitch or just a boggered up thread?

I fully agree they should have fit. I was fairly sure I got what I ordered. It seemed like the factory line nut was just to big. The line would not start . Like said above a parts store brake line with 1/4 fittings fit perfect. Also the rear factory hard line fit correctly. Maybe it was my truck? All I know is I do this stuff for a living and there is nobody I can take my stuff to if I can't figure it out. Even my chevroltet parts guy couldn't get me any thing but bulk brake line with 1/4 pipe fitings. Funny thing is the factory rubber lines would accept a 1/4 line nut also with a good fit. I guess I could've kept trying to force the line in and then replace the nut if I boogered it up but I ran the chance of screwing up the russel line in the process.

Mark it took an hour + or so for the front and 20 min for the rear.

I thought it was weird. The guy at edelbrock sure sounded suprised. The rear was flawless. Maybe it was me for not wanting to force it more. For the record I double checked on 3 different occasions then researched then called edelbrock then waited another day then got busy. I double checked the factory fittings on both sides before cutting the respective line. I was prepared to cut the rear and it went right together. Oh well if I was a dumbass it's done now. Added brake feel was worth it. I guess I wanted it done before my trip to vegas next week and didn't want to wait on shipping.

Well that's good to know. I have almost always had good luck with summit. As a matter of fact the only bad experience was with a sales guy. I called and told him I have a big list that will be around $3200 I gave him the first part # and he say's "anything else?" I say yeah a bunch of stuff. I give him the next part # and he say's "anything else?" I say "YES I have a big list of things". I give him the next part # and he say's "so that'll do it". Of course I'm pissed by this time. I tell him I'll try back later with someone who want's to take my money. Anyway I don't blame summit and thought about sending it back, but I guess I'm impatent. Thanks for your concern.

Sounds like a scene from Dumb and Dumber with the Chinese drive through lady... "and then....and then....and then...."
