Sluggish to Start

My buddy has a Z71 with a 5.3. Whenever he goes to start it, it doesn't sound right. It's like the engine isn't firing right. He's gotta give it a little gas so it doens't stall. What do you think is up?

It sounds like he needs to clean the throttle body. My '99 was doing the same thing. I took off the the air intake and looked inside and I knew why. The throttle body was full of soot and junk. I sprayed it with carb cleaner and scrubbed it with a toothbrush, wiping all the crud out with a rag. Now it runs great and seems to have more power and better response.
