Oooops, meant to say CMP, must have "California Pizza Kitchen" on the brain.

SES is still on, and the truck ('01 2500HD, 8.1L, Ally, 4x4, CCSB) is still hard starting every now and then. Same code P0343, if I remembered that # correctly.

I ran down the trouble shooting list for that code in my Helm's Manual, as far as I could go, just short of pulling the cam shaft or replacing the pigtail in the harness.

So my question is two part:

A.) When I finally bite the bullet and head into the dealership, should I tell them what I've done already, or will they go through all that agian just in case I missed something? I had two friends that are ASE certified mechanics bring a troubleshooting schematic over that was the same as the one in my Helm's, that's why I ask.

B.) What can I expect from the service department? If I've already swapped the sensor, ohmed out each wire, inspected the reluctor wheel, and swapped the PCM, what do you think the next step would logically be? And what kind of $ should I prepare to drop on this?

Thanks for all your help! :)

It certainly won't hurt to tell them what you've already done, but if they're anything like me, and most are, they will want to do their own diagnosis and not skip over something just because you say you already checked/replaced it.

The sensor you replaced... I assume that's the cam sensor? Because there is TSB on that DTC. The cam sensor part number given in the TSB is 12572656. It says "use this" but it doesn't really say if it's different than what you'd normally get if you went to a parts deparment and bought a cam sensor. So check the part number you put in.

As for cost. I couldn't even guess. Our minimum diagnostic charge is $80. That could differ at your dealer and if diagnosis requires more than the basics, it could cost you more.

Yup saw the TSB on the part#, I think they just changed the PN.

I've been through 3 sensors, two from a local auto parts store and one from the dealer, parinoia I guess.

Well I guess I'm just going to suck it up and take it to the dealership, I can't go any further on my own and I'm sure as heck not gonna trust my pride-n-joy to any of the fly-by-night jack leg knuckle busters round here.

Thanks for all your help Tech, you've got to be up for sainthood and if not, I'll nominate you! :):fume:
