Front suspension feels loose

My truck is an 05 Silverado reg cab 1/2 ton 4x4, 18000 miles, no mods, all stock. I have noticed since 3000 miles that my front end suspension feels loose. I have been to 3 different dealerships, all found nothing wrong. Between my father and 3 brothers, 4 Silverados in family, none of their trucks feel like mine. They have all driven mine and all feel that there is something wrong with it. I can feel it through the truck and through the steering wheel. The condition gets worse as the temperatures rise. On 80 degee days it feels as though the front end is held together with jello, on 25 degree days it seems to be tighter but not gone all together. I notice backlash/clunking in the steering wheel on on/off ramps as the truck turns at speed. This truck has been used on road only, no curbs or off roading. This truck is my 4th Silverado, none of the others had this problem. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.

Have you gotten under there and tried to wiggle the steering/suspension? Jack it up, put it on GOOD jack stands and start pushing pulling. It might help pinpoint the problem, or it might just get you some exercise. That's all I can suggest for now.

What kind and size of tires do you have? They're the most likely thing to get slipprier with temperature.

But also it could be a valve in your power steering. Did the dealerships check specifically if the power steering had road feel?

Use the "show me another truck that drives like mine" technique to get a dealer's service department to either fix it or explain it.

I have seen alot of these trucks with this type of problem. There is a tsb for lubing the intermediate steering shaft.

Condition

Some customers may comment on a clunk-type noise coming from under the hood that also can be felt in the steering wheel. These conditions may be more noticeable when turning at low speeds on rough road surfaces.

Diagnostic Tips

Use the information below to help diagnose the source of the noise.

• Frame Snap and/or Popping Type Noise -- A frame snap or popping type noise can be duplicated on rough or smooth road surfaces with steering wheel input to the left or the right. This type of noise can be HEARD and is typically louder with the windows rolled down. For additional information refer to Corporate Bulletin # 03-08-61-002F or newer -- Snap/Popping Type Noise Coming from Front of Vehicle (Remove Front Crossmember, Change Fastener Orientation)

• Intermediate Shaft Clunk -- Intermediate shaft clunk is heard and FELT in the steering wheel and/or steering column area, typically while driving on rough road surfaces with steering wheel input.

Correction

DO THIS

DON'T DO THIS

Lubricate the intermediate shaft using P/N 26098419 purchased from GMSPO after Date Codes 06380E5 and 0638F5.

DO NOT REPLACE the following intermediate shaft P/N's:

P/N 88965505

P/N 89060582

P/N 19149105

Notice: DO NOT use Lubrication Kit P/N 26098419 purchased from GMSPO prior to Date Codes 06380E5 and 06380F5. Use of a Lubrication Kit purchased prior to Date Codes 06380E5 and 06380F5 may result in a repeat repair and a dissatisfied customer.

• Lubrication kits purchased prior to Date Codes 06380E5 and 06380F5 will include grease that is charcoal gray/black in color.

• Lubrication kits purchased with Date Codes 06380E5 and 06380F5 will include grease that is white/yellowish in color.

Take this tsb number to the dealer and then see what they say.
