Tune up time

First off, greeting and salutations to all of you here on the board. I just picked up a 99' C1500 extended cab, 4.8L with a 5 speed that has 93000 miles on it. I'm getting ready to tune it up and had a few questions that I couldn't find answers to in the owners manual.

Tranny fluid: The manual says GM synchromesh, is this the type that is most commonly used in the 5 speed? How much is required?

Spark plugs: What do you guys recommend? Is there a reliable way to check the plug wires?

Rear end: I would like to change the rear diff oil and I see that Chevy recommends a 75-90 synthetic, but I didn't see how much.

I can't think of much else off the top of my head but if you have any other tips, I would appreciate hearing them. I have always liked the way Chevy re-engineered the trucks starting in 1999 and I'm glad to have one now. I'm taking it to Hawaii with us when we transfer this summer. It has gotten great mileage so far, I'm very impressed. The 4.8 has good power but I must have the 3.42 gears as it seems first gear is pretty tall.

Thanks, Pat

Pat,

Welcome to the board

Tranny fluid - In your manual there should be a capacities page in their somewhere. It should give you fluid amounts for everything.

Spark Plugs - I'm a firm believer in AC Delco. They are a little more, but they are the best plug for the truck. IMO avoid like the black plague those multi-point plat plugs. Even the guys on my old ZR-1 Corvette forum hated them.

Hope that helps.
