Service Bulletins

I found a service bulletin on a problem I'm having with the ABS system on my '99 Silverado (thanks to reading thru the threads on this forum).  My question is, if I take this into a dealer, can I expect him to do it at no cost to me?

Thanks for all the good info so far.

If your truck is still under warranty, they should.

If not.... ???   (they still might di it if it just recently went out, out of kindness.)

BTW, welcome to the site.  Hope you like it and glad that you were able to find some useful info.

I'll bet that thing was only a couple thousand miles over the warranty when it went.  Been driving it all winter with the fuse pulled on the ABS.

It's worth a shot at asking them, especially with what I've heard the ABS module costs.  The worst they could do is say no.  They may even be willing to pay half, which would be better than nothing.  ???

Good luck.

Hey Mark.  Welcome!  Since i was on the "inside" i'll tell you some secrets.  How loyal are you to that dealership (eg; do you get your oil changed there, ever paid for a repair or bought another vehicle before or after from this dealership?) are you the original owner?  And do you have an extended service contract? If you do service it there (not the warranty issues) and are the original owner, chances are good if you have less than 60k on the odometer.  After that you'd have to call the Customer Assistance Center and try to get a field authorization for the repair...chances of getting that are slim to none- the GM field reps typically back the dealership.  Good luck. and i hope things go well for you.

You're not encouraging me much.  Here's my deal.  Wifey is from Canada.  Have to visit once a year.  Rather than sit around the inlaws house I go shopping for trucks and take advantage of the soft canadian dollar.  So in the last say 7 years I've had 6 trucks.  4 of them GM's.  I've found that the GM's just resell easier.  Now that interest rates are off, looks like I'll be keeping this one.  Thats okay, I like it.  Red, 4x4 ext cab.  Z71, 4:10's, 5.3L motor.   If it weren't for the darn ABS thing.  So I don't think my local dealer will be too willing.  However, my wife is blonde and attractive...she has a way of getting what she wants, including the truck.  I only get to drive on weekends.

Remind her to not mention a husband when she is at the service desk.    Oh, and watch the wedding ring.   :)
