knock? i dont know what this sound is..

the sounds is like when you have a lifted truck and it rubs on the fender..

coming from the engine..

heres the weird thing, it does it on both sides of the engine, left and right, sometimes on the left and sometimes on the right,

i dont know if it is actual rubbing, but i dont think so, it only happens under heavy acceleration from 2nd to 3rd gear like when getting on the freeway, at first there was no performace hit, now when it does it the truck doesnt want to go when i hear that sound.

truck has 95k, but hasnt had the plugs or wires changed,

oil needs to be changed, and tires rotated but thats it.. i dont know what it is.. but its pissing me off.

any ideas?

truck is a nbs 99 silverado with the 5.3

no such engine problems as of yet.

Change your plugs and fuel filter first. See if that wards off the problem. If that doesnt help it might be a good idea to hit the top end with some SeaFoam. These engines are notorious for sucking oil through the PCV system and coating the intake manifold inside and everything beyond it. Including the valves and piston crowns. This buildup can stay very hot from combustion. When fuel begins to enter the cylinder the hot carbon ignites the fuel well before it needs to be lit off. Causing an audible "rocks shaking in a can" sound you describe. If the buildup is bad enough or the engine isnt getting enough fuel it may ping its ass off. Buy a can of the Foam and let it suck through the brake booster line to try and get rid of the build up.
