best utility rack for GMC Sierra 1500 sportside?

Hello,

 

I have a tandem kayak that I transport in the bed of my pickup now. I am looking for a utility rack that will utilize the existing rectangle holes in bed railings and provide a stable platform to tie my kayak to. I also want it to be easily removable. And ideally I would like it be just a few inches higher than the cab, but not extend over the top of the passenger cab.

 

I called a local dealer and found out that they have a utility rack for fleetside 2001-2006 models for a reasonable price, but nothing for a sportside pickup bed (still kicking myself for not getting fleetside, oh well, it's paid for...) .

 

Any suggestions appreciated. Currently, I am seriously considering getting some 2"x4" lumber and making something that will allow me to load the kayak up and still use the truck bed space for gear, etc.
