Different tire load ratings dual versus single?

Recommended Posts

I've heard lots of wrong opinions why truck tires are rated less for dually use than they are for single-rear-wheel applications like the 2500HD:

1. Dual configurations are rated less because if you have a blowout the 2nd tire has to carry the full load....WRONG.

2. They are mounted on offset rims which changes the loading...WRONG.

3. Tires mounted close together aren't cooled as well...WRONG.

These two web pages gives the RIGHT answer...The first one has more pictures, but the 2nd one from the same site has more detailed information.
