inst parking brake light and abs light

last night i had two lights come on when i was leaving walmart, it was the parking brake light on the instrument panel and the abs light, i'm assuming it was trying to tell me something it wouldnt go out until i stopped and turned the truck off and started it back up.....this is the 3rd time that that's happened, since it happened again, i figured i'd bring it up, each time it goes out after i shut the engine off and start it back up....well some times it takes a couple times of shutting it off and starting it back up........hoping i'm not in for another repair soon, since i just got the multifunciton switch replaced two days ago........

I can only hope right

i went ot checker the other day to buy a drive belt, and mentioned it to the guy there he took his diagnostic tool out there, and of course the lights wouldnt come on when you want them to....hooked it up anyway and of course nothing came up......

the guy then stated that it could possibly be the abs sensors that are dirty from road grime.......any possibility of that.......?

ok the abs light and parking brake lights have been coming on more frequently now, they used to come on only occasionally when i start my blazer, and only as soon as i started my blazer and stayed on, but now it's doing that or not coming on til i get down the road.......i tested the brakes out in the rain when the lights were on , the rear abs wasnt working only the front, so my rear started to slide around just a bit, i've heard a few things it could be, one my rear brake pads are wearing....but that doesnt seem to be the case since it's actually shutting off my abs in the rear whent he lights are on, the other thing someone said was that the rear sensors were gooped up....so i shot some brake cleaner all over the rear rotors calipers etc....didnt help......

so now, i'm at a loss as to what could be causing this

i took it to checker to get the code pulled but the code puller couldnt pull abs codes.......soooooooooo

i dont know what else to do

can anyone help me out?

GM Dealer can check the codes, I had the same thing happen to me on my truck turns out I hit a bump and a connector to the abs module came loose, so what might be happening, and I really don't know but it's better than nothing, the ABS might be loosing communication, causing the computer to sense a brake problem in general (thus the brake light). Additionally the loss of communication with the ABS causes the computer to see troiuble there so it deactivates and illuminates the ABS light. Check and make sure all connectors are good, beyond that I don't know.

yeah, i went ahead after the abs and parking brake light came on today and left the blazer on and looked around the rear brakes, and i couldnt find a wire to the abs on the rear brakes....so i proceeded to the front two and wiggled the wires on each side....it seemed secure, then looked inside the lights were still on so i unhooked the power to the abs module and then started the truck again just the abs light came on, then hooked the power back up to the module and started the truck again......the light hasnt come on yet but i've only driven it twice since......so i guess tomorrow we'll see, but i'm not very optomistic that that helped.....i'm really trying not to bring it into gm...since they want to over charge to do anything.....140.. just to hook up a computer is a bit much to me....so until I find a cheaper solution i guess i'll keep searching for another option......especially since the torential rains have stopped on oahu.......it's not such a big deal as it has been for the past two months here.......

but again thank you for your help.....you never know disconnecting and reconnecting somtimes helps.......at least it does on helicopters anyway.....wires are funny things :banghead:

The same lights came on for me when I did my gear change. You haven't had any work done (gear swap) on your R&P have you?

Thought I would bring this to the top since I am having the same problem with my 01 Silverado Ext Cab LT with 5.3 and 107K miles. It has happened randomly for about 3-4 months. It will go on for awhile, then go away for awhile, seems to happen just about every time I drive it. Usually they don't come on at first start, then after stopping and restarting they will come on. I have a scanner but it NEVER sets a fault code. I am going to try flushing the brake fluid and see what happens. The fluid in there is original from the factory  .
