Tire width and clearance question

So I want larger tires on my truck and I have questions about how wide and tall I can go. On these stock z71 rims I've seen someone running 305s and wanting to put 315s on them. Are others running tires this wide without problems on the stock z71 rim(16x7, right?)? Any problems to watch for if I do this? I basically want to know if I can reasonably mount a 305/75/R16 on my z71 rims or if I should go with something wider. And if so, how wide of a rim should I go with?

Also, I plan to lift my truck a little. I plan to get some torsion keys for the front to give it 2.5" in the front and add-a-leaf in the rear to give it 2" back there. Will this be enough to clear a 305/75/R16? If not, how large of a tire could I clear with that setup?

I appreciate the knowledge, experience, and input.

Thanks,

Corey

The 305 is approximately 12 inches wide. Mounting a 7 inch rim in these would cause the tire to crown and wear unevenly. Go to the tire manufacturer's website and check out the specs on the tire you are wanting to get. They will tell you the minimum and maximum width wheel that can be mounted in the tire you want. My opinion is do not mount a 305 on the stock 7" rim. I don't know what everybody else thinks. I just mounted 285 MTR's ona 9" wide rim on my truck after I got about 2" of lift with my F*#D keys and they look pretty sick. I have a little bit of rubbing on the lower airdam but thats getting trimmed today. I'm putting pics up by next week. I hope this helps.
