tire size penalties

Gentlemen,

When I bought my 00 silverado with 5.3 and 3.40 ish gears, The off line performance was sparkling. Low 4l60e first gear. Highway and towing performance very good. Previous owner had put 285/75 r16 tires on it. Cruising rpms very low.

Just replaced with stock 255 tires. Wow, what a performance difference. roughly 10% increase in cruise rpm and you have to be very careful with go pedal at stoplights.

Remember, when increasing tire size, you definitely hurt performance. I like the look of the larger tires but these are OK too. I would never go back.

I will let you know on any fuel mileage dif, but turning an engine too slow is no good either.
