Intro and '89 GMC seat Qs

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I just joined this board and will freely admit that I know little about modern (post-1970) GM trucks. My father, who is 70ish and not Internet savvy, recently bought an '89 GMC half-ton short-bed. The truck has a full bench seat but the seat cushions are shot. He went to a local GMC dealer as well as a couple of local upholstery shops, and was told by all that the seat was not repairable because the foam padding in the seat was bonded to the seat frame itself. GM apparently no longer stocks replacements, either. He's since called several "automotive recyclers" in search of a replacement to no avail.

Is this true? Is the only option for replacement with an OEM style seat the wrecking yard? In the alternative, are there any aftermarket seat options you'd recommend? He would like to keep a full bench seat and would be okay with a split bench, but he doesn't want buckets or captain's chairs.

Any advice or sources you can offer are appreciated - thanks in advance!

LMC has them but they are expensive http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cd/0042.html

Make sure you sign up to get a catalog for your year/model. They normally stock every part for the older trucks, down to every last nut, bolt and washer.
