Towing

Just used the Silverado for towing the first time this weekend. I couldnt believe how well it did. Seems like the 4.8 is under rated, I cant imagine what the bigger V8's would be like. I pull 3000 lbs up a 7% grade that is about 6 miles long, and have never been able to do 70+ all the way up. I have used a 4.3, a 305, and a 350 and none even compare to the 4.8?????? :0

Glad to hear it! I've been towing my toys and lawn equipment around with mine for the past year and a half and I have no complaints either. The mileage is good and the ride while pulling a trailer is surprisingly smooth!

Come on Tom... That could be anywhere in WV!!! That's why I love that state sooo much... LOL!!!

Seriously though aren't there some long grades on the WV pike like that that he could run 70mph???

I know there are some twisty ones on 250, 33, 219, 39, 16 etc... (all are great bike roads)

LOL, yeah, that could be anywhere. There's a couple places on I-77 and I-64 I was thinking of, but wasn't sure if he was on the interstate of state/county/back road. The first thought was Mount Airy, on the VA/NC border.

Ah, route 39, I used to puke everytime we traveled that road up until I was into my teens. My in-laws, and other family members live down route 39, from Summersville. Elwood used to too.

There's a fairly long grade on Rt 119 south between Charleston and Logan that probably puts my truck to the test more than any hill around here I can think of. I don't mind admitting I can just barely keep it at 70 with 3000lbs of stuff towed/hauled. 60 to 65 is no problem but that last 5mph really makes you rev it up. Next time I go down there I'll see where it's at and how long it is. I'm guessing it's about a 1.5 mile grade. I can imagine the gas guage needle moving left just thinking about it! :ehh:

LOL, I know what you mean. I get teh worst gas milage when I'm home on leave, but I love it. I hate not having mountains and woods around. ???

It was on Sandstone mountain on I-64 between the Airport exit and the Meadow Bridge exit!

My guess was US 19 just N of Summersville, but I didn't think it was 6 miles long. I-64 was my 2nd choice!

Remember many trips in bad snow trying to get hone from Morgantown in Winter on US19!!

Your thinking of Powell's Mountain. Not to far from home.

I've never been on that part of I-64. Actually, I've never been any further East on I-64 than where it and I-77 split. Been west of that part tons of times. We used to live accross from the Turnpike, in Miami back in the '70's, before we moved to Summersville.

There isnt much except open road after the I64-I77 split. Its nothing like I77 where there is gas stations and restaurants at every exit.

Towed 3000+ lbs up the 7% grade again today, and got some weird looks!!! Because before starting up the mountain I noticed 2 vehicles that passed doing at least 75-80mph, and about half way up the mountain, we had to pass them back because the 7% grade slowed them down so much. One was an early 90's model Silverado, and the other was a Toyota car of some kind (They all look alike). When we were going around them they got this weird look on their face like why should a truck pulling 3 Atvs be going around us like that?????(I love when that happens!!) Then after we got to the top they went back around us going pretty fast!
