Keeping black paint clean

Recommended Posts

I've got a black 06 Silverado Initmidator SS. Needless to say it is hard to keep clean. I was told that there are special materials that work best with black paint, does anybody know of any? I have been using Meguirs soap and microfiber cloths and sponges. I wash the truck while the sun is setting to avoid water spots, but once I am finished I still have streaks. I also recently discovered a foreign substance down the side and on a couple of the windows. What kind of "goo off" chemical would be safe to use on paint and on glass or should I try a professional detail and try to get it buffed. Thanks.

best way to keep a black vehicle clean: wash it, wax it, then put it in the garage under a cover with all the lights out.

J/k, black is tough. A good smooth finish will prevent some dust + stuff from sticking to a degree. If you're not afraid of some real work, run over the surface with a claybar and buff it real good. she'll really shine great!

I have used goo gone to get rid of tar, and it seems to not have damaged the clearcoat.

claybar are sold in kits, and are fairly easy to use, they will strip most of the garbage off the clearcoat for you. then. if you're really into it, get a clearcoat polish and hit the paint with that. then get a good orbital buffer and something like a pure carnuba hard wax and go to town! just be careful not to burn the wax though. keep the pressure light, and avaid heating it up.

Hehehehe! That was going to be my answer too! Clean that sucker and cover it!!!When I had a black truck I used to wax it real good and in between washes / waxes (once or twice a week) I would use a California Duster. Black is a real biotch to keep clean but when it is clean and shiny NOTHING comes close.

A good water filter inline with your water source. Mr. Clean autodry carwash system has the right idea, but it doesn't use a quality filter.

That will help with water spots anyway.
