OK guys i found it just wondering from all you gurus if it a good catch. Found an 01 reg cab z71 stepside wiht 70k on the clock. it looks to be in impeccable shape and has has only one owner. the dealership is asking 15,900. i plan on lifting it and such. is 70 k alot of miles for these cars?

That's 14000 miles per yr---it's below the average 15K so you're good there. I drive my GM trucks well into the 100K ranges. My sierra has 135K and runs like a dream. So IMO 70K is low. These trucks will run forever if you change the oil. Be advised: there's a 90% chance the fuel pump will go out around 100K. In the six I've known every one of them did it. If it's at or under blue book get it.

Where are you located?

It makes a big difference...That's only a 12-14 thousand dollar truck around here...But there are bazillions of pickups around here.

You could probably fly down here, pick up an identical truck (with less miles) and drive it home for less than $15,900.

Yeah try and work him down some more imo, hell if gm does anymore deals this summer i would wait save a couple grand extra and buy one with 0 miles on it!

I got my 99 z-71 this Jan for $9000 with 140K on it. prettie good deal I thought, here in MS gulfcoast since most trucks are flood damaged and everyone was buying up trucks for work. And I looked around alot before I decided on the one I got. I almost got am 03 for $13,000 but it was really rough looking and had alot of miles. something just wasn't right on it. I say go for it. although you can get a good deal at the dealership on an 05 for around 22K

Great exercise of patience and self-restraint! That's a tough thing to do once you get the new truck bug in you.

Best of luck with your new wheels...good things come to those who wait.

PS - whereabouts are you in Northern California? I grew up in the Clearlake area.
