More Horsepower

[5.7GMC1500]

I just bought my K1500 with a 5.7 from an older guy that only put 74,000 miles on it. I am looking to get a bit more horsepower out of it and not spend alot of money. I was thinking about running duals out the back, will that help any? Anyone got any suggestions?

It will sound good depending on the muffler you choose but running duals will not increase HP that you can feel or notice despite what folks say and in fact might reduce back pressure resulting in a loss of power/HP.

from my understanding the 5.7 does not require that much backpressure so i don't think you will lose anything

Ok, but what are some cheaper mods that are going to help me. How much will one of those chips help? Ive seen a few on ebay, but didnt know if they were any good.

I don't know how well yours will respond, but I added duel exhaust, a cold air intake and a hypertech tune, and it's much quicker. I have an 05 5.3 though, so I'm not sure if you will get the same results. The exhaust didn't make much difference, but sounded awsome. The other mods added alot of low end.

Horsepower costs money...An article on Magnaflow's website claims +12 HP at peak with their catback system..but it costs around 600. Our 5.7's can use a handheld programmer instead of a chip replacement, but they cost around 350. There's no real "cheap" way to go, but the programmer (or a custom tune) will be the most bang for your buck. check out http://www.wait4meperformance.com/. I've heard some good things about their chips.

A custom chip is the best value, I've got one on order. Put the other mods on first, then you can get a tune thats works best for them.
