Aftermarket Exhaust and Engine whine question

Ok this maybe a stupid question, but does anyone know of an aftermarket exhaust for the 6.0L that has a nice rumble at idle and full throttle, but it is otherwise comparatively quiet? I'm looking into the Corsa single side dual exhaust. Does anyone have any experience with this part? My last truck was 95 Z71 5.7L with flowmasters (no catalytic converter) and 33" mud terrain tires. I love the way it sounded at idle and at full throttle, but the constant droning at cruising speed I hated. Combined with the mud terrains, it was hard to hold a conversation with yelling.

I sold the Z71 and purchased my fully loaded 03 2500HD. It is whisper quiet at cruising (still has the 245 pizza cutters). However, I miss the exhaust sound at idle and full throttle. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My second question involves a noise my engine began making. Two weeks ago I pulled a small 5x10 trailer loaded with my atv to a motorsports park about 2 1/2 hours (all interstate) from my house. On the return trip I noticed a "rushing wind" sound coming from the engine whenever I started from a stop. It only lasted during 1st and 2nd gear, then stoped. I noticed the trans temp had moved up to almost 200 deg. It has since started doing it every morning when I crank the truck (except when I take it to the dealer). It will usually last about 3 to 4 minutes then stop. It doesn't make the noise during driving anymore.

I took the truck to the dealer and could find nothing wrong, but they never experienced the noise. I searched the site and found one entry similar to mine. He seemed to think it might be a fan clutch. Anyone know anything about this? Is this normal or something I should be worried about? If it is a engine cooling issue why would towing 800Lbs. max create a problem in a truck rated for 10,000lbs.?

Sorry for the long post. Hope to post pics soon!

Sounds like your fan clutch. If your truck has led an easy life, it may be that when your pulled the trailer was the first time the fan clutch ever engaged. It's normal.

You're probably noticing it more now that you've heard it in full roar when it was engaged.

The CORSA exhaust sounds great at an idle and even better at full throttle. There is very little resonance at freeway speeds. I have CORSA's on my GrandSport and will be installing their system on my DMax in the near future. Hope this helps.....

GS464, thanks for the info. Just what I was looking for, I've pretty much decided to go with the Corsa.

mmmikkke, your right it is the fan clutch. I stopped by the dealership yesterday and shop foremen told me it was the fan clutch making the noise.

I still believe something maybe wrong. I bought my truck in Texas and drove it home to South Carolina. I drove something like 1200 miles straight on the interstate at 75 to 85 mph. I never heard the fan clutch. I've had the truck for almost 7 months and have put over 12,000 miles on it. Once again I have never heard the fan clutch, until I took the trip I mentioned in the first post. Now, after I drive my truck for 20 to 30 minutes the fan clutch comes on. It is very loud and feels like it robs the engine of power.

Dealership says this is normal operation. I don't know. How often and in what conditions does the fan clutch engage? Need advice on whether this is normal or I do I need to make the dealership do some more troubleshooting.

I have the Corsa Touring Side Exhaust system on my 05 2500HD w/ a 6.0L. I love the whole system from build quality to sound quality. I was in the same situation as you. I had a 98 K1500 with true 2.5" duals, hi-flow cats, and 2 chamber Flowmasters. The resonance killed me in my old truck and especially when I was towing in drive. The Corsa solved all these problems. It sounds good at all rpms and looks good. It was worth the price tag. You will not be disappointed with it.
