I was a week too late........

Placed my order last week for a 2006 3500 with 8.1 and the ZF-6. Dealer called me and said my order was rejected because the ZF-6 is no longer offered.

I was forced to order the same truck but with the Allison. Dealer said there is a chance that it could be rejected as well as GM is preparing to start taking orders for the 2007's. In fact when we re-ordered, I noticed options were not the same and dealer discovered he was filling out an order for a 2007 model and said that it was so new he did not know it was available yet.

I'll know by Tuesday if I can still get a 2006. I just hope if it does go through, there are really good rebates on 06's when it finally comes in. I'm pretty disappointed, this will be my first ever automatic equipped truck. I really wanted the 6 speed manual.

I was also not able to get the 145 amp alternator.

Not sure why you wanted the manual . . . I have the Ally and wouldn't trade it for anything. Great tranny.

I also don't know why the heck you wouldn't be able to get the 145a juice box. Doesn't make since on a truck this size. Trucks this size shold come standard with the heavy duty alternators. Some times the GM guys just don't think. What could be the difference to them in cost, $5? Penny smart, pound foolish if you ask me.

Wondering why you want the 06 instead of an 07 also? I would also be very surprized if you get to apply rebates on a truck you are ordering but maybe.

Good luck with it,

I agree on the Allison. I've been a manual guy all my life, but I LOVE the Allison. Wouldn't even consider the manual.

As for rebates, yes, you can use them on a truck you order. I ordered my truck in early April, too delivery in early May and applied the available incentives ($1k downpayment assistance (rebate) and 3.9% financing  ).

Don't be disappointed, I think you'll come to enjoy the Allison.

I may not be able to get it at all, GM has not picked up the order yet. The list is released on Tuesdays, May 23 is my last chance, if GM does not pick it up then, I'm out of luck on ordering a 2006. I am eligable for the employee discount, so I pay same price whether I order or get off lot. Just can't find what I want on lots. Dealer won't help me search other dealers because they will not get the rebate GM gives the dealers for doing GMS pricing.

It'll get rejected for the 2006 year too!!! I ordered a 8.1/allison 2500HD more than 4 weeks ago and it got rejected, was told by the zone sales rep I could get it in an 07 but they couldnt promise a delivery date yet. Both my local dealer and I have been scouring the country looking for a GMC 2500HD SLT crew cab with an 8.1 without much luck. If I dont have one by tuesday Im buying a duramax off the lot.

GUYS.....Those dealers are blowing smoke up your behind !

According to wheels.com the FINAL cut off date for ordering

06 GM trucks WAS 4/13/06..........................

A dealer hates to do a search for a truck on a GMS deal !!!!!

Why??? They LOSE the holdback on a otherwise "mini" deal

so its not worth their time unless your paying top dollar from

just walking in off the street or buying what they have on

the lot !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best bet is to go to GM Buypower and do a wide area search

and find your own..............geo

No smoke here, the owner of the dealership is a friend and I stood right in front of the zone rep when he personally told me my truck wouldnt be built in the 2006 model year, 2 weeks after we had submitted it. My order was submitted april 7th, due to the fact my dealer also told me the cutoff was the 13th of april and I needed the truck by memorial day weekend. Bottom line, Im not getting it!!! We found another truck in the system that was going to another dealer that had been ordered in march but as of Friday may 19th, it hadnt been built yet and hasnt had a vin # assigned to it, so Im not getting that either. Im making the deal on a duramax crew cab on monday, I cant wait any longer. Towing season is here for me!!

Snownyet,

I know that you are probably disappointed about not getting the 8.1, but you'll love the Duramax. In the long run, you'll be happy that this confusion happened and you ended up with the LBZ DMax.

Yea I know. I really wanted the d max in the first place but had a hard time justifying the added cost. I spent the day driving the duramax yesterday, after a nice 60 mile trip ,the wifes comment was " you are buying this truck, right?" LOL Its a sweet package.

I've been looking around the area as well as the whole western half of the U.S. Very few 8.1's out there, none with a ZF-6. I did find a 2500 HD in Missoula MT, with the D-Max and ZF-6. I may be heading up there next week or waiting to see what they are going to do with the 2007's. Maybe they will release a "classic' like past body style change years and have a 2007 with the 2006 styling. If the new trucks look anything like the 2007 Avalances, then I will try and find a 2006 somewhere that is close to what I want. That new front end is fugly, too much plastic. GM needs to realize that some of us don't haul soccer balls with our trucks. I should have ordered this winter and saved the headache.

The rep told me the 2007 HD body style will be a carryover of the current body. The new body will debut in the spring of 07 as an early release 2008.

Yup, and the 2007, even though it is the current body style, will have much more restrictive emmission standards. Personally, I opted to buy a 2006+ LBZ because it has a body that has six years of development and I didn't want a less efficient diesel. Obviously, others will want the new body and will be willing to sacrifice the growing pains of a brand-new body and engine efficiency to get it. We all make our choices and nobody is wrong.

Personally, I believe that the 2006+ with the LBZ Duramax and the six-speed Allison 1000 will eventually become known as the "Best of Breed." Surely the 650 ft/lbs of torque qualify it as the most powerful stock Duramax, plus the versatility of being able to use the Allison as both an automatic or a manual transmission make it a wonderful, powerful beast.
