starting problems

I have a 97 GMC K1500 p/u W/ 4.3L.

Drove it Saturday and noticed a little sluggish. Has burned a quart of oil in under 1000miles. Sunday tried to start and it just turns over. It seems to shake the truck a little more vigurously upon turn over. Also noticed sat it was takeing a little longer cranking over to start.

Have trouble shot a little, plugs were white with build up but correct spark gap, changed to be safe. Checked for fuel pressure. Plenty after the fuel pump. Do have spark with plugs.

I have been leaning to timeing chain acts like a car I owned once when it droped the timeing belt. A friend of mine pointed me towards the cam posisioning sensor. My book doesn't have it in it. Was wondering if it's accessable enough to warrent me to buy a better book and the part and go after it.

Only other thing I was going to check was the compression.

if you disagree with the part I am looking at I'd love to hear what it might be. Thanks for your help.

Check for fire are plugs when it will not start and if it is good did you check pressure at regulator and have you changed fuel filter recently too? Also, you might scan for codes.

If you lost a quart of oil in 1000 miles and your plugs were white, you didn't burn it. And if your not leaving it on the driveway its got to go somewhere. I suspect you might find it in the cooling system. Hopefully not, but if the coolant is milky then you might have a blown head gasket. You might do a compression test and a cooling sytem pressure test.

Hopefully I'm wrong...... Red
